No sour grapes from rugby club

WEYMOUTH Rugby Club will lose out on just over £450 following the acceptance of Weymouth FC’s CVA.

The Monmouth Avenue-based team were owed £495 after allowing some of the Terras’ younger teams to use their training pitches, but instead will receive just £44.55 over five years.

“We are only one of the small creditors who were owed money,” said Weymouth RFC’s chairman Glyn Arnold. “The rugby club runs on a tight budget and we live within our means so £400 makes the difference between youth teams having kits to play in or not.

“We get valuable sponsorship from businesses in the community and £400 from any of them would be considered a lot of money.”

The money was owed because teams under the Weymouth FC umbrella have used the rugby club’s training facilities.

However, the Seasiders cast no vote and Arnold was disappointed that CVA the meeting was held in Chingford.

“The meeting wasn’t within the community, which was unusual.

“The rugby club is all about community support and the club and the community working together, it’s just a pity that the football club can’t replicate that.

“It’s unfortunate but there are no sour grapes.”
